Variable-power power supply for a melting device

The partner

As a manufacturer of laboratory fusion equipment, Claisse Scientific Corporation offers sample preparation equipment for chemical analysis.

Now owned by the multinational company Malvern Panalytical, its products are still marketed worldwide under the “Claisse” brand name.

The context

For its TheOx and Le Neo fusion devices, the partner wanted to use power supplies that it owned outright, in order to optimize their operation and reduce costs. It also wanted these products to stand out for their ruggedness and durability.

Unlike many other devices on the market, these are electrically powered and use multiple ceramic heating elements (SiC or MoSi2).

The solution

Thanks to its expertise in power electronics, the Novika team took charge of designing the power supply circuit board for the heating elements.

To ensure stable performance over time, the power supply is designed to be variable, adjusting to provide uniform heating despite the normal degradation of the elements over their useful life. This allows the devices to maintain excellent performance for years to come. They have a very high power factor, making them suitable for use with a single-phase power supply.

To enable global marketing of the equipment, the switch-mode power supplies were designed to meet international electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility requirements. The performance of TheOx and Le Neo in these areas has been validated in Novika’s specialized laboratories.
