The partner

Founded in 1999 as an auto repair shop, Adapt Solutions has been entirely dedicated since 2002 to manufacturing automotive equipment that provides independence and safety to wheelchair users. Its factory in St-Lambert-de-Lauzon employs several dozen people.

The context

After modifying a friend’s vehicle to allow him to access it independently despite a loss of mobility in his legs, the company’s owner found himself in high demand. At the time, there were no simple, affordable solutions in North America that would allow for the modification of various vehicles while maintaining their safety features.

Out of this need, the LINK was born—a device that installs under a car seat and allows the seat to be pulled all the way out, facilitating the transfer of the person from the seat to a wheelchair, and vice versa. Originally designed by a young engineer at the company with support from the Novika team, the system was ripe for a complete overhaul to meet growing demand while incorporating new technologies.

The solution

Complementing the partner’s expertise in mechanical design, the Novika team took charge of designing the equipment’s control system. Two electronic circuit boards were designed: the first controls the three motors that power the LINK, while the second is dedicated to the control joystick.

In addition, the team developed an Android app that assists staff with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of the LINK during operation, while also enabling remote control, thereby improving service efficiency and the customer experience.
